The original idea for this book came from the realization that there were few comprehensive sources available with practical information about computer applications and information systems in health care. From its inception this book was envisioned as a guide for nurses and other health care professionals who needed to learn how to adapt and use computer applications in the workplace. As the outline developed it became apparent that this book could also serve as an informatics text for students in the health care professions. This second edition contains updates and revisions to reflect changes that have occurred in the rapidly evolving technology and health care field since the book was first written.

Each of the authors has a long-standing interest and involvement in nursing informatics. In fact, the same idea that inspired this book also led a group of nurses that included the authors to form the Tri-State Nursing Computer Network user group in 1988. This organization remains active, and has recently changed its name to Tri-State Healthcare Informatics Professionals, with an expanded focus to include other informatics professionals in addition to nurses.

This book is divided into three sections. The first section, General Computer Information, reviews information common to all information systems. It assumes no prior knowledge of or experience with computers. Chapter 1 introduces the reader to the role of informatics in contemporary health care. Chapter 2 reviews basic information and terminology related to computer hardware and software. The section on the roles of various support personnel has been expanded. Chapter 3 emphasizes the importance of maintaining data integrity and suggests some practical steps to ensure current, accurate data in health care information systems. The fourth chapter addresses basic Internet use to support health care. The discussion on search tools and intranets has been expanded and content has been added on portals, e-health, and e-care. Additional information on Internet use and resources are found in the appendices at the end of the book.

The second section, Health Care Information Systems, covers information and issues related to the use of computers and information systems in health care. This section bridges the gap between the theory and practice of nursing informatics. Chapter 5 covers basic information on health care information systems, including decision support and expert systems. Chapters 6 through 15 discuss all aspects of selecting, implementing, and operating these systems. Chapters 6 through 9 discuss the processes of overall and system strategic planning, system selection, implementation, and training. Chapter 8 now contains additional information on testing, system evaluation, and strategies to implement system changes after system installation. Other pertinent topics are addressed in the remaining chapters. Chapter 10 discusses information security and confidentiality; Chapter 11, system integration; and Chapter 12, the computerized patient record. Chapter 13, Regulatory and Accreditation Issues, has been updated to include a review of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and its implications for nursing informatics and health care professionals. Chapter 14 covers community health information networks and Chapter 15 covers disaster planning and recovery.

Section III covers three specialty applications of computers in health care. Chapter 16 discusses ways that computers can support health care education. It now contains content on Web-based education. The title of Chapter 17 has been changed since the first edition from Telemedicine to Telehealth to reflect the growing acceptance of telehealth as a broader term. This chapter explores the growing field of telehealth, which uses computer and teleconferencing technology to provide top-quality health care to clients all over the world. Chapter 18 looks at ways that computers are increasingly being used in nursing and other health care research.

Four appendices are included at the end of the book. The first three provide detailed information on getting up and running on the Internet, using the Internet to perform a job search, and Internet resources of special interest to health care professionals. The fourth appendix provides suggested answers to the case studies that are found at the end of every chapter.

Each chapter contains pedagogical aids that help the readers learn and apply the information discussed. Learning objectives let the readers know what they can expect to learn from the chapter. Case studies at the end of each chapter discuss common, real-life applications, which review and reinforce the concepts presented in the chapter. Each chapter also includes a summary and list of references. The Glossary at the back of the book serves to familiarize readers with the vocabulary used in this book and in health care informatics.

She has been active in informatics for more than 25 years, serving as manager of clinical systems at a major medical center where she was responsible for planning, design, implementation, and ongoing support for all of the clinical information systems. This isn't a sticker bomb type book. There are very few actual stickers. Rather, this is a survey of the sticker scene over the last few decades. There's profanity and some soft-core stuff over maybe 15% of the book. But if you can't handle this, then what are you doing looking at a book called "Stuck Up Piece of Crap" in the first place. To me, this is a badass coffee table book for people into provocative street art from the 80s forward. Maybe you were lured in by Fairey, Banksy, et al...but there are so many genius artists in here. This book is a true inspiration and one of my favorites to just pick up and leaf through. If you're an artist, you should probably just get this now.

Well I bought this sticker book because I collect stuff from every city I go to. This was supposed to have cool stickers in the book. I am sure T one point it did. Bit my copy all the stickers have been removed. So I bought a book where all the value was stolen.

Lot of history here in this book, great coffee table book. LOTS and LOTS of stickers to look at. There are stickers in the back but they are original stickers made for this book and not stickers re-made from back in the day.Its cool to see some of the stickers you use to have slapped on your deck and you wish you had. This is a easy way to have a lot of them in one place without searching for the real thing.

To be brief, if you have even a passing interest in Punk Rock, Graffiti Art, Rave Culture, Club Culture, Sub Culture or just Graphic Design, this book is an absolute must have. Essays by the Authors and Shepard Fairey beautifully connect the dots from the sub culture of sticker design, production and broadcast to its influence on our every day lives. The book is wonderfully, curated, and the design on the pages is beautifully laid out. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I won't lie I was just interested in it for the stickers, but after reserching a little on the book I found it is really informative. I have seen these images everywhere, but didn't know what they were or what they ment. I really like all media of art work and I never thought that stickers could be contemporary art, but it really is. This was a great find of a book! Thank you.

Like a proud father..As author of the book, of course I'm bias. It took three year to complete & was way more work than my partner Monica LoCascio ever imagined. The results were worth though. I can't describe how proud I feel when I see sold it in the MoMA, Tate Modern, The Centre Pompidou & other great museums around the world! Its also now been brought in into some universities in the UK.Its now sold out of its 10,000 print run & we're waiting for Rizzoli to reprint.

I got turned on to this book in a Graphic Design class and bought a copy for my Brother as well. The book is awesome enough on its own, and the stickers themselves make a great bonus!

I purchased this book in a drug store one day because the title was so absolutely absurd. It was on a book rack next to me while I was waiting on a prescription to be filled. I've been studying the bible my whole life and you expect me to believe this book is going to allow me to learn it in a day?That was about three years ago. I'm now reading through this book for the third time. My plan is to read this book every single year for the rest of my life. I've purchased and given away five copies of this book and have recommended it to a dozen others. It is unquestionably the absolute best, most insightful, powerful, connect-the-dots, bible reading aid I've ever come across. Chuck Missler does an amazing job of bringing to light the power of God's word and he does it in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The book is laid out in 24 chapters, which Missler expects you can read through in about an hour per chapter. That's where the name of the book comes from. It's almost impossible to put down and it gives you a far deeper appreciation and understanding of the scripture than you ever could have had by reading through it on your own.I'd give this book six stars if I could. If you're curious about the scriptures, do not hesitate to purchase this one. It's probably the best money you could ever spend. Absolutely incredible.

The book is based on the widely popular video series, which as it name states, consists of 24 1 hour videos that go through the books of the Bible (the videos are available on YouTube). I loved the videos so much that I decided to purchase the book to go with it.One of Chuck's favorite expressions is “The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed. The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.” This book (and the videos) do an incredible job of proving this out. The book summarizes the Bible, highlights the integrity of the OT and NT, reviews the OT prophesies that were fulfilled in the NT, and calculates statistical probability of Jesus fulfilling the prophecies of the Messiah in the Scriptures (there are over 300 prophesies detailing the coming Messiah and all were fulfilled).A description on the Koinonia Institute website describes the series as: Using sound scientific facts, historical analysis, and Biblical narrative, Dr. Missler weaves together a rich tapestry of information, providing an accurate understanding of Scripture’s relation to itself, to us, and to the world at large. Chuck Missler is a great bible scholar, a great teacher, made me look at things a new and different way. I have already read most of the Bible, but Isaiah and Ezekiel have me stumped. That was my reasoning behind this purchase, but as I read every chapter of this book, and by the way, if your studying at all it's going to take you WAY MORE THAN 24 HOURS, but every moment you spend is SOOOOO WORTH IT. you will look at your bible in a new and fresh way. At least I did, and I've been a bible reading Christian for 30 yrs.

This book introduced me to Dr. Chuck Missler!! My sorrow is that I did not find him till the end of his life. Since I bought this book, have bought other books & materials by him. I am also Very Thankful Some of his material is on UTube. He has enriched my life & and others I call family, so very much!! I recommend this book to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of the Bible!! I have never seen or heard a teacher like him in all my life. He could make me understand Physics in the Bible & I have always avoided Science & Math. He was an incredible man & shares his understanding!! Please read this book!!🙏🏻💖
